This is a good modern day story of a societal collapse caused by an EMP device that instantly ruined every electrical circuit in the United States and how a community struggles to survive in a world thrown in a millisecond from the technological era to the pre industrial revolution era with power, lights, refrigeration, TV, radio etc.

Something puzzles me about these scenarios, have to read the book of course, all the broken gadgets have their copper coils etc so to rebuild the top part of, say, a motor car engine should be easy.

In one second after they pretty soon get older vehicles fitted with points , condensors and coils up and running again, but the more modern stuff with electronic engine managemrent systems were just toast.
