www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-22037016Nothing new in this I guess but interestingly I found myself only finding out about it from the business section of a newspaper where it is being blamed for a fall in airline shares. Which got my old PA radar 'pinging' a little.

As an aside to this I just saw yesterday the Chinese are being condemned for lab experiments on the bird flu virus which tries to cross it with regular flu. They say they want to understand how the more deadly form of the virus currently only in bird populations will affect humans when it eventually mutates. American scientists who actually had the virus pass animal to animal in ferrets were previously condemned for smaller scale operations. Which makes us wonder what China is doing?
Having just read the Redaction trilogy about this very virus used by China in a chemical attack attacking wipes out the world I sometimes wonder modification is sometimes too real!
Will refind the links and post them

Having just read the Redaction trilogy about this very virus used by China in a chemical attack attacking wipes out the world I sometimes wonder modification is sometimes too real! Will refind the links and post them Look forward to those links. A while ago I took part in creative writing experiment organized by the chap who runs this website.... Survival weeklyA pandemic senario was envisaged and people who were contributors to a website dedicated to a fictional ancient history TV show exchanged emails over how the whole thing panned out. It was good fun and if you are interested you can read it all here.... Lost Worlds,As part of my contribution I have my character, who is based in London, literally smash his way into a deserted Whitehall and try to piece together what might have happened from a variety of documents and so on he finds inside the various offices and building. Part of it includes this... There appears to be pretty strong view that the 'patient zero' boarded a plane in West Africa, most likely from Murtala Muhammad International Airport. which is situated just outside Lagos in Nigeria. There was much disagreement about whether the virus itself originated in Nigeria or even Africa because it was of a type more linked to the far East. One explanation offered, and it was at pains to stress that it was pure speculation, was that there was some evidence that the Chinese had been working on a possible Avian flu variant with the hope of using it as a pest control method. The Chinese have a major agricultural research facility in Nigeria and that was flagged up as the place that this research may have been being done. Now I know that the Chinese have been massively increasing their influence in the whole of Africa for well over a decade and that this has included buying up lots of agricultural land along with the more obvious mineral wealth assets. So there is a logic that they would be looking at ways of increasing yields and so on. However the author of this particular theory was keen to stress that it was just speculation and that they had no evidence of anything sinister occurring there.Maybe it shows that fact can be much stranger than fiction ?

Thanks for that. Very interesting. I would assume that China has, for more reasons than most, a lot to fear from a potential pandemic and so I guess its logical for them to carry out this sort of research because the combination of the two variants is the real 'Genie in the bottle' when it comes to the big potential SHTF moment from that although I have read claims that we are due for an entirely new strain to hit which is being seen as another potential tipping point.
