www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23460709Interesting story. I can remember reading a novel some years ago which envisaged an out-break of the plague in New York following a person being bit by an infected squirrel. Now I am sure this is a non-story just making head-lines due to the time of the year but it shows that this plague is not just part of history but still around today. Growing up in South london every bump in the ground was supposedly a 'plague pit' so it sort of becomes part of your heritage almost. And given that the impact of the disease is one of the things credited with allowing Europe to race ahead in terms of global power due to the enforced changes it bought about due to the collapse of the feudal system its always fascinating to read things like this.
