www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-23900394Found this fascinating. One of my other literary interests is the notion of alternative history. For example what if Hitler had won WW2 and so on. So seeing this got me thinking about how a PA world in an alternative universe might pan out ? For example what if the 1919 flu pandemic had been even more severe than it was ? How would survivors have fared in 1919 for example ? The only PA novel, off the top of my head, I can think of that takes an alternative history POV is '48' by James Herbert but would love to hear of any others. There was a rather strange novel called 'The Years of Rice and Salt' by Kim Stanley Robinson that also envisages a PA enviroment in which the Plague killed 99% of Europeans rather than 1/3. It won was all sorts of awards and the like but I never was able to really get into it and it is one of the very few PA books I have ever given up on. Interesting themes but they never really caught my imagination.

Have ordered it for a penny + postage. But why would the rest of the world be immune especially as the plague started in the East and I presume that live fleas would be hopping around in the dead towns?
Did you ever read the alternative SF stories where Elizabeth (1) was assassinated and the Jesuits run science. They have a spooky meeting every year attended by all members of the Order who ever were or will be sort off.
