www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009ZWGAOE/ref=oh_d__o00_details_o00__i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Putting this in the British section because the main character is British and finds himself a survivor of a very sudden and deadly pandemic whilst on a business trip to Australia. I enjoyed it whilst raising my eye brows on occasion at the plot developments and in particular one little idea about how the characters might get back to the UK but if you cannot be a tad on the dramatic side and push the window of credibility in a post-apoc fictional romp then where can you ? And you cannot fault the author for bold thinking ! In terms of the writing style, well perhaps a little less use of adverbs might have helped but those are minor gripes. And it passed the ultimate test of any fiction which is leaving you wanting more. Well worth an investment for a kindle or similar.

Just bought it. Looks like rain out so would be rude not to start reading now, thanks.

After reading about it here I purchased and have enjoyed the book, just finished it today. Quite good I thought, a good pandemic tale with no zombies, magic or other fluff. I also enjoyed the Australian setting which is a change. The only negatives are too much telegraphing by the author and a few (lets split up and search this haunted house together) moments. I would purchase more by Duke if available.
Apart from max max and the coming Rover movie, has anybody read much else Australian PA? I can think of and have read: Taronga Victor Kelleher a YA novel. Quest Beyond Time by Tony Morphett - another YA. On the beach by Nevil Shute. Tomorrow when the War Began - series after invasion and Balklanisation of Australia For film there is Undead a rolicking asteroids from space trigger zombification movie.
In the research for this I found Drowning Towers by George Turner, I'll have a read and report back.

I am stuck part way through Tomorrow when the war began. Perhaps its because visions of the bits of the American Red Dawn film I have seen get in the way.

I am stuck part way through Tomorrow when the war began. Perhaps its because visions of the bits of the American Red Dawn film I have seen get in the way. Although I generally like YA PA (those I have read: taronga, z for zachariah, children of the dust, brother in the land, life as we knew it, city of ember, empty world) I could not get far into the Tomorrow series. Too much suspension of disbelief required.

My only exposure to Australian PA before this book was the 'Mad Max' series of films with the first two being instrumental in cementing my love of the entire genre. Not so keen on '3' although it is still not a bad film. I did post up a short film that impressed me on here.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=gryenlQKTbE

I have seen that Australian Zombie short - an interesting imagining of the tribulations of zombie infections. I have come across this as well, a GURP (RPG rules from Steve Jackson) set in the soutwest of Western Australia in a post-nuke world: www.wyrmworld.com/wsw/index.html
