This is a great series, I have read Wool and am half way through Shift, luckily my local library has these books. Hugh Howey was initially self-published, putting out the first Wool book as an eBook series. He seems to be a success story with now having a publisher and putting out dead tree books. Wool is an omnibus of his first 1-5 books and Shift 6-8. This series deals with a dystopian PA reality in the near 2050's to mid 2100-2200 year future. In the first book you meet the 10 000 people living in a underground silo. They have been down there for generations with all the requirements for a self contained community in their underground silo. They can ascend the spiral staircase and at the top level look out over the dry, scarified wreckage of the outside world with crumbling skyscrapers in the distance, nothing is alive out there. This series is a great read, I have been churning through the first and now second in the series. It is well written, there is a broad but not too sweeping cast of characters and a slow reveal of all the secrets of the silo world. Available as real books, audio or eBooks. They are not small - Wool is 563pages, Shift 569pages. Hopefully he can maintain the excellence for Dust. www.hughhowey.com/

Have Wool, couldn't like it much, perhaps I should give it another chance.
