Been reading several PA novels on Kindle, free or cheap, pass the time but none are going to be a Day of the Triffids classic. EMP is the favourite, the lights go out and they start shooting each other. But at some point into the story someone will try to ameliorate the disaster by establishing order and reducing the number of firearms around. They of course are THE ENEMY, more so that drug-crazed cannibals. Boring really as I like classic endings involving the smallholding and the homely wife.

Our Americans cousins do seem a little paranoid about Government although at times it is hard to fault them for that. I tend to give the EMP stuff a skip because it can all be a little samey although it is not a bad scenario, per se. Always makes me smile that the hero is almost always a dedicated prepper and the rationale behind the novels seem to be more a case of wishful thinking, in a sort of fantasy 'told you so' manner.
