What do we think ?
Personally love the modern production values of the recent remake but feel the real essense has been missed, probably deliberately.
But I enjoyed the last episode (S2, E3) for its dramatic content and think it touched on issues that matter.

The old Survivors thrived on good storytelling and textured people & concepts. The new one seemed to thrive on employing the BBC orchestra and wardrobe dept! Lots of cleavage and PC writing, but the last one was getting better. I wonder if the beeb will axe it to cut costs. Tom should get his own show - Live Hard!

The BBC have announced that they will not be making another series so its all over.
Absolutely gutted. A remake of survivors had been something I had been prattling on about for a long long time as the original had been the first thing that got me going with all of this PA lark.
But the BBC could not just stick with a straight forward remake. No, they had to try and be clever about it and rather than just update the plot and the characters (which the original did need as it was very much of its time ) they had to try and make it like a British version of 'Lost' meets '24'.
Damm shame. With modern production values and so on this could have been something special and with killing it off now means that there will probably never be a similar pandemic relation fiction show.

I thought they had written themsleves into a box. Unless they ignored Tom in the aeroplane they had to have him doing something on an island somewhere, shades of "The prisoner" perhaps or maybe starting an epidemic over there.
Wasted opportunity all round because they seem incapable of series now. The Ashes to Ashes franchise is vanishing up its own whatsit for example.

Edwin BBC drama seems to be all about style over substance. One of my favourite BBC dramas of all time is 'I Claudius'. I have the video box set and when I lend it to people they always remark on how basic the sets are but how the story lines are just so brilliant. And thats what annoyed me about the Beebs remake of survivors. The original did need some updating, no questions about that, but the essentials did not. A group of people just struggling to come to terms with what happened and rebuild their lives. It did not need conspiracy theories and so on. Oh well, spilt milk and all that.
