It is a tired cliche in westerns, crime and PA dramas that the order todrop a gun when covered by those with them is obeyed. Seems silly to me when the answer "No, what are you going to do about it?" would produce confusion withing the enemy ranks along with the knowledge that firing is likely to go both ways with no guarantees for anybody. Follow up the refusal with a tiny non-sequitur and a window of opportunity might be made. I heard the other day of a Bouncer (door staff) who beat several would be hard men by getting them off guard by questions such as "is your Mother called Mabel?"

Oddly enough in my recent work I have a scenario in which the baddies tend to favour using tazers and are more than happy to fire those willy nilly. Although I must admit that if somebody points a gun at me I am probably going to do what they tell me.
