As the video I posted failed, some thoughts on the use of bows in the PA. In Britain firearms are severely regulated and in a PA scenario this would be significant, given violence breaking out which is not certain. I believe that there are about a million and half legal shotguns in England and maybe 300,000 other firearms. Add in gunclubs etc and we have perhaps fivr million lethal things that go bang, incuding reenactment weapons capable of firing bullets from matchlock and flintlock weapons. Military numbers imponderable but let us say another million.
So one gun for every six people or so in Britain or just England. This means that bows, crossbows, atlatls, catapults, air weapons would be of greater significance. Then there are sharp things and people who know how to use them so enter fencing clubs, pre-gunpowder reenactment groups as well as pikemen from the ECW as significant players. Would archers and these other groups come together because they are so used to camping and playing together and exert control over areas. As a bonus their historic gear would also be as useful as that of the survivalist or bushcrafter, who in any case are drawing closer to reenacters and living history exponents.
Because of our interests in archery etc we wereable to equip ten people for a day's shooting in our wood and all could have been equipped from our or their resources with swords that could be sharpened, along with knives etc and protective gear. Not a bad unit to face the chaos of an EMP etc with? And to look after their dependants.
