I am sure that we are all aware that the Greek economy is in a lot of trouble with all that means for the Euro but I only found this out today.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-10798260Reminds me of our own lorry driver dispute. Makes me wonder about the whole societal breakdown issue as a threat. I know that we live in 'crisis' economy in terms of suppying the basics. Not sure of the exact term but as I understand it the idea is to maintain all stock reserves at central locations and only distribute as needed so that Supermarkets are designed to only carry 3 days stock at most. Which obviously leaves us at the mercy of Lorry drivers. Makes you realise that perhaps the balance of power is more complicated than people realise.

Mathew I assume your talking about the "Just In Time" delivery system? It's what you seem to be describing anyway - very little stock held at supermarkets but with regular deliveries therefore keeping the shelves full. I work pt in a supermarket as my self employed income has dropped with this current financial problem we are having and I wanted to top up my income. Believe me, in the store I work at anyway, the shelves would be empty long before 3 days were up....
I tend not to worry about such things so much these days. We have an x numbers of months worth of food and water stored here at home which will alleviate the problem of having to fight off hundreds of people all after the same litre bottle of water of tin of mushy peas.

Thanks for that. Thats the term I was looking for.
And I hope things work out on the job front. I am also self employed and its getting a real struggle. Been looking for additional income streams myself recently.
Never known things this tight and think it will get worse before it gets better.

When I was involved with nuclear precautions (what a tautology!) it was reckoned that there was three weeks supplies in the distribution chain in the country but if that is now cut by a seventh then Oh dear! 'Course we could live for a week on the freezer at least even if the power went off.

Getting a bit hacked off with the hysteria over these supposed 'Student' riots.
Found myself inadvertently caught up in the first one and to put it bluntly I found them all to be a tad drippy if the truth be told. As to the window smashing that went on at the Tory HQ, well you are likely to see more damage in any Town centre on a Sunday morning after the usual post pub/club carry on's.
Still we have a 24/7 news industry that needs something to fill its time but I know a journalist for a French TV station working over here and he was laughing about these distrubances even warrenting a brief mention on the news, let alone dominating the head lines.

Suits the authorities to have a bit of publicised violence don't it?
I make a bet that students convicted of any of the violence will be convicted on less evidence than that which is produced when policemen accused of wrongful violence get off.
