Thought a thread for these would be good so as not to break up a narrative.

Don't Dream.....
Have read it elsewhere I think. Enjoyed it again but I want more please. I like the possibilities outlined of apparently irrational people behaving rationally, making up some sandwiches, returning kit including guns, sticking to bargains.
This is something the first Survivors did very much better than the recent.

Rather enjoying your little saga now Edwin. The idea of people taking to the oceans is one that does appeal. Once had an idea for a short story based on people taking part in a round the world yatcht race returning to the shore only to find everybody dead.

Yes, a good read. More now please. Won't write more now as don't want to spoil any surprises for those yet.

northernraider1, haven't read all of your contributions yet and am enjoying them. Aren't you a little sanguine about cooperation amongst prepping folk though?

More hopeful than sanguine, however i have managed to establish a small but effective network over the years of serious preppers and survivalists. took some effort weeding out the armchairs and wannabes though

If I have a single main issue with the whole survivalist 'thang' its been what I see as, and admitedly mainly from a US pov, that the main point of it all seems to be about isolating yourself and making sure you have enough bullets to shoot anybody unlucky enough to wander in to your cross-hair. For me thats not surviving anything, merely just delaying the inevitable end. Humanity thrives on co-operation. And its good to see that in your senarios. Great stuff.

Thats where later survivalists and preppers differ from the Gung ho Rambo survivalists of the 70s, though still utterly contemptous of sheeple (our name for people who wont take even modest steps to prepare themselves such as owning a torch or packet of fues) we are very much family and group oriented these days.
Many actively seek mutual support agreements with other families, quite a few move home to be closer to other clusters of survivalists in places like Devon, Durham etc. The main topic in our community nowadays is more often growing your own food, generating solar and wind power, making bio diesel and being as self sufficient as possible. Weaponry is much further down the list compared with gathering knowledge and information.
Beside millions of people are preppers anyway but just dont know it. How many people have house insurance, life insurance and car insurance ?
They dont plan on burning the house down, dropping dead or crashing the car, but they have insurance just in case, that prepping which is just common sense.
If folks watch the news and it says its going to snow again like it did last year lots of people with buy deicer, screenwash, get a snow shovel and put a fleece, flask and boots in the car, just in case. Thats prepping ;D

Just finished reading the last part. Enjoyable with a touch of thought provoking. Will comment more when others have read it.
