Something I have worked on for a while and have given a polish to. Thought it might be of some interest.
It started out as an exercise in creative writing, just to get me used to working on something every day and then took on a life of its own.
There are another 5 parts and I will put them up once I have had a chance to give them a read through and an edit again. I have previously published them online on a couple of post apoc forums so apologies if anybody has read them before.

Hi Mathew. I have just finished reading the 3 parts you have put up so far and I have to say they are a damn good read. Obviously a lot of editing still to be done but that doesn't affect the flow. You have included some very interesting characters and scenarios, some were rather brief and their relevance not obvious but most did add something to the development of the story and of the main character; who I must admit I had difficulty relating to or caring about, perhaps understandably since he is a crack-addicted, swindling, self-obsessed estate agent, whose name I didn't know. The diary format, first person with minimal diaglogue, makes the latter feature understandable but no less irritating. Still a good story though and I would certainly like to read the rest of it.

Thanks.
I actually set out to write it more as an exercise to get me into a regular writing habit and picked on the diary format as a way of doing that so there never was any sort of conventional story arc much beyond a notion that I would have the character ending up heading towards a Dalamatian Island.
As to the character himself, well I confess he is based on quite a few people I know but I would like to point out that whilst he will happily admit to enjoying more than his fare-share of class A drugs (not based on me-always been more about the booze myself) he would certainly turn his nose up in disgust at crack (although drug addiction does come into things in the next part).
Interesting that you see him as self-obsessed. I suppose he is when you look at it but I like to see him as a man struggling to come to terms with his new world and having to have his pretty skewed sense of right and wrong go through a sort of cleansing process which he struggles with. Always thought that the emotional impact of a PA senario gets sometimes ignored in a lot of the fiction and it was an area I was keen to explore.
And I deliberately wanted to not make him a person that would be likeable in a conventional sense. Always found the bad guys more interesting and whilst I dont think my hero is a bad person, I certainly think he is somebody for whom being the good guy does not always come naturally although I like to think that ultimately he is on the side of the angels.
Will strive to get the next part up sooner rather than later.

Just one more part to go. Hope you enjoy this one and apologies if its a bit more turgid in places but I have used it as a chance to spout off on a couple of bits and peices.

Again a very interesting read, and certainly thought provoking in places. Your main character is less often drunk and more often likeable and shows your use of good character development. I would have liked to see more of the same in some of the other main characters – most of whom unfortunately remain rather 2 dimensional - but that is difficult in the single viewpoint style inherent in a diary format. Good to see some of the previously featured characters revisited and some clever scene setting as the action progresses, producing anticipation without making future events too predictable. Thank you for posting it. I look forward to reading your final instalment.

Well up to standard. Will leave discussing it until more people have had a chance to read.
